Symptoms of skin thrush
Skin thrush usually causes an itchy rash of red, crusty patches on the skin.5 These patches may be different shapes and sizes.5 They most often appear in the folds or creases of the skin, like the underarms, groin, underneath the breasts or near the buttocks.5
Causes of skin thrush
Skin thrush is caused by the Candida fungus, a type of yeast that naturally lives and grows on your skin.1,2,5 If Candida starts to multiply too quickly, it can cause a skin infection.1-3
Candida can overgrow in favourable conditions, like areas of the skin that may be warm or damp (i.e. folds and creases).3,5 Taking antibiotics can also disrupt the balance of yeast and healthy bacteria on your skin, causing an infection.3
