Symptoms of jock itch
Jock itch causes a red, itchy skin rash that can affect the groin, inner and upper thighs and buttocks.1-3,5 The rash usually has a raised edge and a clear centre.2 The skin in the affected areas may also look scaly.5
Causes of jock itch
Jock itch is caused by dermatophytes, a type of fungi on your skin.1 These dermatophytes can start to grow too quickly in warm, moist areas of the body (like the folds of the groin), which causes a skin infection.2,3
Jock itch is contagious and you can catch it from direct contact with someone who already has it.3 You can also get it from contaminated items (like towels or clothing).3
DID YOU KNOW? If you have a fungal infection on your feet, you can spread the infection to your groin area by touching or towelling your infected foot or feet and then your groin, causing jock itch.3
Treatment for jock itch
You can treat jock itch by using Terbane® cream.4
Clean and dry the affected area, then lightly rub in a thin layer of Terbane® cream.4 For detailed instructions, see our FAQ section.
