WHAT IS RINGWORM?

Symptoms of ringworm
Ringworm often starts as a red, scaly spot on the skin, which spreads over time, causing an itchy rash.1 The centre of the rash is usually clear, which causes the red ‘ring’ shape.1 You may notice one patch or several patches of ringworm on your skin.1 It’s not a serious health problem, but it is uncomfortable and contagious (meaning it can be spread to other people).3,4
Causes of ringworm
Ringworm is caused by a type of fungus called a dermatophyte.1 You can pick up this fungus through close contact with somebody who already has ringworm, or by sharing items like bedding or towels.1 You can also catch ringworm from an animal that has it.1
Ringworm is a common condition that can affect anyone.4
